Stanford Welcomes Wired Editor-in-Chief Nicholas Thompson

On October 8, The Brown Institute at Stanford welcomed Wired magazine Editor-in-Chief Nicholas Thompson who joined Stanford Brown Director, Maneesh Agrawala, for an in-depth conversation about the state of the media and technology. The two discussed  the trajectory of Thompson’s journalistic career – from The Washington Monthly, to The New Yorker.com, The Atavist, to Wired and CBS News.  Thompson said that he hopes that Wired, the early bible of the tech crowd, can help people understand what technology is doing to us and how it’s changing our lives in ways both good and bad. He also spoke about the growing problem of trust with the media, what technology platforms could do better when it comes to handling misinformation, and  the potential of increased tech regulation from policymakers in Washington, D.C.
