Michelle Lam is a first-year PhD student in Computer Science at Stanford University. Working in the HCI Group, she is interested in understanding and building upon the lived experiences and contextual expertise of users as they interact with algorithmic, AI-powered systems in domains ranging from online advertising to photo-editing and dance. She is interested in exploring how everyday users can become more empowered to actively reshape the design of sociotechnical systems. Michelle was a Class of 2019 Siebel Scholar and served as a Vice President for Stanford’s Society of Women Engineers for two years. She holds an MS and BS in Computer Science (focusing in HCI and AI) from Stanford University.
