The Brown Institute is excited to announce that our team members Ziv Schneider and Juan Francisco Saldarriaga have been selected as some of the winners of the 2020 Journalism 360 Challenge. The initiative by the Online News Association and the Knight Foundation focuses on using immersive storytelling to discover new ways to engage audiences and advance the field of journalism. Researchers Schneider and Saldarriaga’s project ‘AR For Everyone! Experiencing Augmented Reality News Stories in the Browser’ will explore and document developing browser-based, marker-less AR elements in news articles, alongside text and mapping elements. Over the course of nine months, Ziv and Juan will develop two immersive experiences rooted in journalism and mapping. They will publish their source code and tutorials to make augmented reality accessible to small and local newsrooms.
