We are pleased to announce that the Brown Institute at Columbia Journalism School is partnering with Media Party to host a unique gathering of journalists, designers, entrepreneurs and tech experts. The conference and hackathon will focus on AI and its role both as a subject of journalism as well as tools for improving our reporting. And, in anticipation of the political events in 2024 in the US, we will specifically consider AI’s impacts on the upcoming election.
Media Party is not a typical conference. For three days, attendees will dive into a hands-on exploration of pioneering practices in journalism, AI, and media innovation. Having established a decade-long legacy in Buenos Aires, Media Party is now launching its second edition in the United States, fostering meaningful conversations that will shape the media landscape. As a partner for this event, the Brown Institute brings extensive experience experimenting with new technologies in journalism — and specifically AI.
Media Party is anticipating more than 200 participants among attendees, speakers, trainers, developers, and entrepreneurs from around the world. Beyond traditional panels and keynotes, the three-day conference emphasizes collaboration and innovation with a focus on AI and elections.
Day one, in the afternoon, commences with international keynote speakers, a media fair showcasing groundbreaking projects.
Day two provides further opportunities to learn from global industry leaders through insightful talks and workshops, while simultaneously starting hacking new ideas, or improving actual ones. The day concludes with engaging lightning talks, focusing on innovative problem-solving strategies within the media landscape. On the final day, attendees continue to participate in a hands-on hackathon, fostering active collaboration on transformative projects.
Media Party New York 2024 not only catalyzes innovation but also builds a community. Nightly mixers, breakfasts, and lunches offer ample opportunities for networking and fostering lasting relationships.
With the backing of the Brown Institute, the Knight Foundation, the International Center For Journalists (ICFJ), the National Science Foundation and Hacks/Hackers, Media Party New York 2024 is set to redefine the media landscape.
