Katharina is a visiting PhD student at the Brown Institute through the Alliance program. She is pursuing a PhD in Sociology at Sciences Po Paris, where she is part of the médialab and the Center for the Study of Social Inequalities. Her research analyses conversations about immigration on different platforms and in traditional newspapers in Germany and France. Combining computational and qualitative methods, she explores who is vocal about the topic; how different groups of migrants are represented; how news spread on different platforms; and how audiences across the ideological spectrum engage with immigration-related news, depending on the content. Before joining Sciences Po for her Masters, Katharina obtained her BA from Leuphana University and worked for a German-Israeli tech start-up. In Paris, she is actively involved in different local refugee-aid associations.
