Reasons to be Cheerful is a multimedia platform created by artist and musician David Byrne that curates and shares replicable ideas, systems and processes that are successfully leading to positive change in the areas of culture, education, science & technology, environment, civic, economic, healthcare and transportation. The primary mission of the website is to share information globally in order to engage and empower individuals and communities locally.
The Summer Fellow will be responsible for pitching three original stories as well as writing weekly reporting pieces based on original research over the course of the fellowship. An ideal candidate has an interest in solutions and social journalism; experience with original research, writing, editing and fact checking; and is adept at working in a small team. Design, video and web skills are an asset. Current Columbia Journalism School students, and graduates from the past two years J-2017-2019 are eligible.
